This website is still being worked on, please excuse the blank pages. Carlos Fittante is a dance artist of remarkable diversity. He is a graduate of the School of American Ballet and currently specializes in Balinese and Baroque dance. He is the artistic director of BALAM Dance Theatre (BALAM), a contemporary dance company inspired by Balinese theatre founded in 1979 by Islene Pinder. Through his work with BALAM he has studied and performed extensively in Bali and has choreographed a multitude of East/West fusion works including “Sita Lost in the Forest ,” a story ballet inspired by the Hindu epic, “Ramayana.” “Sita Lost in the Forest ” received international critical acclaim in July 2000 when it was presented at the Bali Arts Festival hosted in Denpasar, Bali. As a Baroque specialist he been featured in numerous period operas including NYC Opera's production of “Rinaldo”, Boston Early Music Festival productions of “Ariadne,”and “Thésée,” the Handel Festival of Göttingen, Germany's productions of “Ariodante” and “Arianna en Creta”, “Les Indes Galante” with Apollo's Fire, and “Pygmalion” with the New York Baroque Dance Company where he danced for 14 years. He has assisted Baroque choreographers Ana Yepes, and Catherine Torucy, and opera director, Anthony Baker. He has performed with numerous period music ensembles including Academy of Ancient Music , Handel & Haydn Society, Ars Antiqua, Louis-Louis, Dallas Bach Society and others. His choreographic work is diverse in range and includes East/West fusion, Contemporary, and Baroque. His work has been presented by Queer Moves Festival (NYC), Staten Island Ballet, Washington University in St Louis, New Chroeographers on Pointe (NYC), Semara Ratih Gamelan of Ubud, Bali, New York Baroque Dance Company, Queens Museum of Art, to mention a few. He teaches extensively and is on faculty at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and at Peridance Center in NYC. |
